Keep it together: tips to reduce stress

We’re living in crazy times these days. No matter who you support or what your beliefs are, it seems like everyone is a bundle of nerves and stress. Pile on a job search on top of all of that and you’ve got yourself a ticking time bomb. Luckily, Aced My Interview is here to help you out with some techniques for you keep it together and reduce stress during the job search.

Get Enough Sleep

Anyone who has ever pulled an all-nighter knows that when you don’t get enough sleep you can end up becoming a greasy, sweaty, strung out mess. Take care of yourself by making sure that you don’t spend too much time burning the midnight oil. The average adult needs between 6 and 10 hours a sleep a night, so try to get at least seven or eight to keep yourself firing on all cylinders. You’ll find yourself feeling more rested and relaxed when you wake up in the morning.

Meditate

Have you ever spaced out and thought about nothing for a minute? If you have, then meditation might be for you. There are tons of benefits to daily meditation including, but not limited to, improved memory, better overall mood, and reduced stress. You don’t need to learn special chants or become a monk to meditate either. The only thing you need to do to meditate is find a quiet place for a few minutes, clear your mind, and focus only on your breathing. When you’re finished with your meditation session, you’ll be calmer and more centered than before you sat down!

Exercise

Sometimes you just gotta get rid of that nervous energy. A sure fire way to reduce stress and channel that anxiousness building inside of you is to exercise. This doesn’t mean you need to come up with a whole new workout plan and buy a bunch of fancy gear and start drinking protein shakes. Even just going outside for a jog through the neighborhood is enough to get your heart pumping and your endorphins flowing. When you finish your workout, you’ll find that you’re probably in a better mood than when you started, plus you’ll get a more restful night of sleep.

Laugh

Patch Adams wasn’t kidding when he said that laughter was the best medicine. Sometimes, when you’re overwhelmed, all you need is a good laugh to pick up your spirits. If you’re feeling stressed out and you’ve got a little bit of time to spare, throw on one of your favorite movies or TV shows and let the good times roll. Even better, get out of the house and try to find some local comedy shows and laugh with a crowd!

Vent

If all else fails, there is nothing like meeting up with a good friend over a cup of coffee (or something a little stronger) and complaining. Talking about your feelings and fears is a great way to not only relieve the pressure building up inside you but also get some outside perspective on things. Oftentimes, we get a better understanding of our problems by talking things out and putting feelings into words. Sometimes, we even realize that the thing we thought we were upset about had nothing to do with the root of the matter.

Stress seems to be the only thing that has plenty to go around. However, if you adopt these practices and tips into your daily life to reduce stress, you will find that you will be happier, calmer, and more clear-headed, which will certainly show when you’re on the job interview.
